OK I'll admit it. I've been very slack with the blog. But to make up for it I'll have some great images from Okinawa over the next little while. I've only just got back and am still processing but here's a little sneak preview of what to expect.
This is the Chura umi Aquarium. In the local Okinawa dialect Chura means 'beautiful' and umi is the Japanese word for 'ocean'. And, as you can see, they pretty much got the name spot on.
Somebody once said that the mark of a true professional photographer is being able to take an unattractive something and make it look beautiful. Well in this case I must have been pretty amateur because I think it would just about be impossible to make this look bad!
That's 3, count em', 3 fully grown whale sharks swimming around there. Can you notice the people in the far left hand side of the frame seemingly in the middle of the water? That's another observation deck. And to the right where the rectangles of glass are - that's the windows next to the restaurant where you can eat your lunch while these behemoths of the deep as well as Manta Rays, and huge schools of fish swim past.
I'll treat you to some more pics over the coming days before we head out in to the main island of Okinawa, Japan. It was my first time there and I hope you love the images as much as I am proud of them.

I hope you can't order whale in the restaurant!
Haha. Definitely not. There seems to be an impression that you can buy whale meat everywhere in Japan. I personally don't know anybody who eats the stuff, and have only seen it on sale occasionally at fish markets.
True - At the end of "The Cove" when locals were interviewed, most professed no interest in eating whale meat. Not an independant survey by any means, but still...
I've been going there since the late 80's and I've never met anyone, including all my extended family, who eat it. Obviously there is a market for the stuff, or else they wouldn't still be selling it, but I don't personally know anyone.
